A man from Bristol had to be rescued from his flat by
firefighters when a small fire broke out late on Saturday
evening.
It appears the fire started after cooking was left unattended –
fortunately a smoke detector in the property alerted neighbours who
in turn contacted the fire service. On arrival crews found the male
occupant asleep in the property. Firefighters woke the man up and
made sure he was not suffering any ill effects as a result of the
small fire.
The fire was contained to a pan in the kitchen, which crews
removed from the property. The positive pressure ventilation fan
was brought in to disperse smoke from the flat.
Had there not been a working smoke alarm in this property, this
small fire could have spread and the outcome for the male occupant
could have been very different.
Make sure you test your smoke alarm every week and keep spare
batteries in your home. And if you don’t have a smoke alarm, get
one! Avon Fire & Rescue Service will fit smoke alarms free of
