Unattended chip pan sparks fire

21.19 Uplands Road, Fishponds

A chip pan fire caused damage to the kitchen of a house in Fishponds after the appliance was left unattended while cooking.

Fortunately the occupants of the house noticed the small fire had developed and alerted fire crews to the scene.

Two firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus put out the fire using a C02 extinguisher.

Following the incident crews fitted smoke detectors in the property after noticing that the occupants did not have any. Smoke detectors will pick up traces of smoke long before you do, giving you an early warning of danger and precious time to get out of your home safely.

Fires in the kitchen account for almost 70 percent of all house fires in the Avon area – you can find out more about staying safe in the kitchen in our community safety area.
