Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish a fire that started in the kitchen of a ground floor private flat as the occupant walked their pet dog.

The fire caused damage to the kitchen and heavy smoke logging to the rest of the property. Crews fitted smoke alarms in the property and later returned with a thermostatically controlled chip pan to ensure safer cooking in future.
