Crews from across the area were called in to tackle a blaze involving a large quantity of straw in a barn in South Stoke, Bath.

Wholetime and retained duty crews on three appliances from Bath were first on the scene and found the building was well alight with the fire coming through the roof.

Due to its remote location crews from Radstock, Bedminster, Speedwell and Winscombe were mobilised to set up a water relay to nearby hydrants. A fire engine and hoselayer from Southmead also attended. Relief crews from Temple, Brislington, Speedwell and Bedminster were later drafted in over the course of the incident.

During firefighting operations, crews used two jets and three high pressure hosereels. The barn was completely destroyed as a result of the blaze and an adjacent building also damaged.

Fire Investigation Officers and Avon & Somerset Constabulary are now working to establish the cause of the fire.
