A 48-year-old man had to be rescued from cliffs at the Avon Gorge after falling seven metres.

The casualty was above the road tunnel underneath the Clifton Suspension Bridge and was reached by the rope rescue team, who descended on lines from the top of the gorge. Firefighters and paramedics also used ladders to reach the top of the tunnel.

The man was placed on a stretcher before being transferred onto the turntable ladder and lowered to a waiting ambulance. The climber suffered head injuries in the fall.
