Kitchen badly damaged following chip pan fire

A chip pan which had caught fire after being left unattended and a smoke alarm that wasn’t working could have proved a tragic combination for the occupants of a house in Hengrove.

Fortunately the smell of smoke alerted the two women and a man to the fire, but not until the blaze had already badly damaged the kitchen. All three managed to get out of the house before the arrival of the fire service.

Two firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus (BA) extinguished the fire using a high pressure hosereel and the Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan (PPV) was brought in to disperse smoke logging in the property.

The importance of having of working smoke detector in your home cannot be stressed highly enough – smoke alarms will often pick up traces of smoke before you do, giving you an early warning of danger and precious time to get out of your home safely.
