Hogarth Walk, Lockleaze
Three generations
of a Lockleaze family had a lucky escape when fire broke out in
their home during the early hours of Sunday morning.
With no smoke
detector in the property, the family were only alerted to the drama
unfolding in their kitchen when one of the occupants woke up and
smelled smoke.
Fortunately her
swift actions meant that the whole family – including her parents
and her two young children – were able to escape unharmed. However,
the family’s pet dog died following the incident.
Four firefighters
wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using
two high pressure hose reels and the positive pressure ventilation
fan was brought in to disperse severe smoke logging of the
property.
The fire, which
badly damaged the kitchen and caused smoke damage throughout the
house, is believed to have been caused by a fault with the family’s
dishwasher.
It is vital that
you have a smoke detector on every storey of your home
as they can pick up early traces of smoke and give you
precious time to escape to safety.
