20.32 – McArthur’s warehouse, Gas Ferry
Road, Bristol
A fire on the second and third floor of a derelict warehouse in
the Hotwells area of Bristol saw appliances from across the area
involved in an 18 hour firefighting and damping down operation.
Two pumps from Temple were initially called to the incident and
on arrival made pumps four after finding the four storey building
well alight. Additional appliances, including the Command Support
Unit and a turntable ladder were brought in during the course of
the night. The Cobra, a new hose based at Southmead, was also
deployed during the operation.
A total of four jets, two hose reels, four firefighters wearing
breathing apparatus, and a turntable ladder were put to
use.
Fire investigation officers believe the blaze at the building,
which was home to a number of homeless people, was started
deliberately.
