Local motorcycle dealer Fowlers has given a helping hand to
Bristol firefighters carrying out a charity challenge after one of
the team's mopeds broke down on the UK leg of their trip.
Aaron Cooke, Danny Munden and Ross Pullen, from Speedwell Fire
Station, are attempting to ride from John O'Groats in Scotland to
Tarifa in Spain in a mini homage to Ewan McGregor and Charlie
Boorman's Long Way Down - all in aid of Children in Need.
After setting off last Friday (24 October) the trio have faced
torrential rain and high winds, and it was when they crossed into
the Lake District at the same time as the Fell Runners that they
hit extreme weather leading to one of their vehicles giving up.
News of the breakdown reached Bristol and after a call from the
team's support crew, Fowlers stepped in and provided the trio with
a Honda Lead moped to enable them to complete their trip to
Tarifa.
Fowlers Assistant Sales Manager, Ben Haines, said: "After
hearing of the team's bad luck on Saturday, we did a run around to
see if we had a vehicle available to suit the challenge. The Slow
Way Down is a great charity event and Fowlers is delighted to be
able to help the guys out."
The team was extremely grateful with the loan offer and dropped
into Fowlers on Monday (27 October) to pick up the keys before
heading to Poole in Dorset for their night ferry to France.
The team hopes to reach Tarifa early next week, before returning
to the UK to take part in the Children in Need Appeal night on
Friday 14 November.
