Firefighters get in a lather for charity

Firefighters will be taking care of one weekend chore for members of the public this Saturday, during a series of charity car washes taking place across the area.

On Saturday 13 September staff from Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) will be grabbing their buckets and sponges during a fundraiser for The Fire Fighters Charity, formally the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.

Crews from six fire stations across the service area will be taking part in the annual event to raise much needed funds for the charity. And as windows are being washed and bonnets buffed, drivers and their families will also have the chance to meet their local firefighters and chat about general fire safety advice.

The national event is organised to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity which provides support services and treatment to more than 13,500 serving and retired members of staff from UK fire and rescue services. It is run at a cost of £9 million a year and is entirely reliant on donations from the general public and fire community.
