A fire at a pub in the centre of Bristol forced the closure of one of the city's busiest roads.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service was called after staff at the pub noticed smoke filling the building.

On arrival crews from Bedminster and Temple fire stations found the three-storey building heavily smoked logged. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus made a search of the property, discovering a fire in the void between the ground and first floors.

Crews removed ceiling, floor and wall panels to reach the fire. Two high pressure hose reels and one jet were used to extinguish the blaze which caused damage to the ground and first floor.

The building was also affected by smoke and water damage.

The incident forced the closure of part of Park Street as a total of five appliances were committed for up to four hours at the scene, firefighting and damping down.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze has been launched.
