Henleaze Park Drive, Henleaze, Bristol
A pair of curling
tongs which had been left on close to a pile of clothes caused fire
to break out in the bedroom of a house in Henleaze.
It appears the
tongs had been left on for some time when the smoke generated by
the smouldering clothes alerted the attentions of the mother and
daughter living in the property.
Two firefighters
wearing breathing apparatus (BA) entered the property and
extinguished the fire using a hose reel. The positive pressure
ventilation (PPV) fan was also brought in to disperse the
smoke.
With no working
smoke detector in the property, crews remained at the house
following the fire to give fire safety advice and fit smoke
detectors.
Smoke detectors
will pick up traces of smoke before you do, giving an early warning
of fire and the chance to escape to safety. Read more about smoke detectors (PDF 78Kb, opens
in a new window).
As with all
electrical goods which heat up, make sure they are unplugged after
use and stored away from flammable surfaces and materials until
cooled.
