Crews from Weston-super-Mare and the Coastguard were called to the
rescue of a man who had become stuck in the mud about 500 yards
from the Tropicana.
The causality, a man in his twenties, was spotted by some passersby
who called the emergency services.
With the tide going out two coastguard members walked 150 yards
through the mud to the exhausted man in order to stabilize him,
while firefighters from Weston-super-Mare launched the
hovercraft.
Crews piloted the hovercraft to the casualty, who was stuck up to
his thighs, and coastguard team, where they were able to pull the
man out of the mud and into the craft. The coastguard team
then also got onto the hovercraft and all were taken back to the
beach.
Station Manager Andy Southard said: “It was a quick, textbook
rescue with excellent joint working between agencies.”
The casualty was taken to hospital by
ambulance.
