Chickens perish in blaze

20.02 Sodbury Common, Chipping Sodbury

A large fire in an outbuilding caused the death of up to 50 chickens.

Two fire engines from Yate Fire Station attended the incident and on arrival found the structure well alight. Crews used a jet and a high pressure hose reel to bring under control the blaze which involved a building used to house live poultry and store hay.

Firefighters were on scene for two hours as they worked to extinguish the fire and damp down. The efforts of the crews ensured the fire wasn't able to spread to other poultry houses, but sadly 50 birds living in the fire affected building are thought to have perished.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
