Tetbury Road, just off the A46 at Old Sodbury
Firefighters spent
over two hours extinguishing a blaze in a vehicle workshop, thought
to have started while work was being carried out on a car.
When appliances
from Yate and Kingswood arrived on the scene they found the
building – approximately 40m x 20m was well alight. As the
workshop was in a fairly isolated location and away from water
supplies, additional appliances were called for to pump water to
the scene.
At the height of
the fire, eight firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA),
three main jets and two high pressure hose reels were tasked with
controlling the blaze.
Fire crews’
efforts prevented the fire from spreading to a farm building
containing hay and farm equipment and a nearby house.
It is believed the
fire started accidentally during vehicle repairs at the workshop. A
man, who was in the workshop at the time of the fire, was taken to
hospital by ambulance believed to be suffering from smoke
inhalation.
Fire crews
remained on scene for a number of hours damping down pockets of
fire.
The A46 was closed
by police during the incident.
