Burst water main causes flooding

A fire engine in front of the affected building

Crews from Temple and Speedwell were called to two blocks of high-rise flats. On arrival they found the basement of Longlands House flooded by approximately 300,000 litres of water. The basement, which contains the heating system for the flats was completely submerged. When the water was turned off it appears it then travelled down hill via a service duct to the basement of Corbett House, flooding that area too.

Crews spent around three hours on the scene pumping out water from both basements. It’s thought it was caused by a burst water main.

None of the flats had to be evacuated, but it’s thought the water and heating systems were affected.
