Acid spill leads to call out

Tuesday 24 November

17.41 Gilda Parade, Hengrove, Bristol

Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) was called after a small quantity of acid was spilt in a Bristol shop.

The initial attendance included two fire engines from Temple Fire Station along with a fire engine and the Environmental Response Unit from Brislington Fire Station. As three people who had been in the shop at the time of the spillage complained of breathing difficulties, firefighters entered the property wearing breathing apparatus.

Specialist chemical identification officers and equipment from AF&RS were also bought in during the incident. Following the officers’ investigation the substance was found to be a mild, but pungent smelling acid, that posed no long term health dangers to those who had been exposed to it.

The incident is being investigated by the police.
