A fire behind a door - illustration Fire safety is important!

Fire is very dangerous, and is one of the main causes of accidental injury and death amongst children. You can help prevent a fire in your home by making sure that you don’t play with matches, lighters or candles, that you don’t put things onto the cooker, or play near a fire or heater.

Smoke alarm illustration Speak to your parent or carer to make sure that your house has a working smoke alarm – smoke alarms can save lives as they give you an early warning of a fire. Avon Fire & Rescue Service can arrange free Home Fire Safety Visits

You should also make sure you speak to your parent or carer about what you should do if a fire happens in your home. Having an escape route planned means that if there is a fire you know the best way to get out of the house.
