Thank you for visiting the Equality and Diversity (E&D) section of the website. We hope that you are able to find the information you are looking for and see that we are working hard to help our workplace and our community become a safer place to be.

If you cannot find the answer you are looking for, or would like to make a comment about these pages, please contact the Equality and Diversity Unit.

Purpose of the Equality and Diversity Unit

The unit assists Avon Fire & Rescue Service to provide an Equality and Diversity Strategy. Our commitment to equality and diversity is rooted in the core values of the organisation and goes further than ensuring we comply with legislation, but also reflects national best practice.

We also facilitate the implementation of policies, practices and procedures that actively promote equality, diversity and human rights. We work hard to support the elimination of any barriers that prevent equality for all our employees and members of the public.

To do this we are focusing on six objectives:

  • Corporate responsibility (mainstreaming)
  • Learning,development and evaluation
  • Partnership and networking
  • Policy and practice
  • Advice and support
  • Recruitment and retention of black and ethnic minority people (BEM), women and disabled people.

We feel that the principles of equality and diversity are central to achieving the objectives on which AF&RS was founded -  to make our community safer. We feel this means that the organisation and its employees must be:

Skilled

    Accessible

        Friendly

            Educated

                Representative
