Commercial Fire Safety

Welcome to Avon Fire & Rescue Service's (AF&RS) Commercial Fire Safety area.

Here you can find information on how to keep your business safe from fire, as well as information about fire safety legislation and how you can meet laws and requirements.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRFSO)

The RRFSO came into force on 1 October 2006, and means businesses must carry out a Fire Safety Risk Assessment. You can find more information about the RRFSO, plus read guides on the subject. The guides available on this page provide relevant fire safety information and examples of Fire Safety Risk Assessments

More information about the RRFSO can be found on the Government website Fire Gateway which also provides an online compliance self-assessment form.
Please note: this facility is an aid to carrying out a risk assessment and does not constitute a risk assessment on its own.

AF&RS has also produced a Fire Safety Checklist (PDF 290kb, opens in a new window) to help businesses meet their obligations under the RRFSO. This check list can be used to help carry out of a Fire Safety Risk Assessment.

In the Commercial Fire Safety area you can also find information about sprinklers and other fire suppression systemshotel fire safety, and the reduction of false alarms. You can also download commercial fire safety leaflets in other languages.
