Keep Warm, Keep Safe this winter Season’s Greetings from Avon Fire & Rescue Service!

Welcome to the 2009 Advent Calendar. We want you to Keep Warm, Keep Safe this festive season - help us count down the days until Christmas and stay safe during this chilly time of year.

Alongside festive cheer, this season brings with it lots of extra expenses. Added to the difficult economic times faced by the whole country, this might mean people struggle to heat their houses. Using portable heaters, log fires and electric blankets to keep warm in one room may seem like a cheaper option, but it could end up costing you much more - fires caused by heating equipment alone more than doubled last December.

Further to this during the festive period there are also a number of other activities which can increase the risk of fire in your home.

Remember - having working smoke alarms in your home is the only way you could buy vital time to get out of a house fire – make sure you test the batteries every week.

Open the Advent Calendar every day for a new message to Keep Warm, Keep Safe this Christmas.
