The South West Command Development Centre (SWCDC) at
Lansdown, near Bath, is one of the most modern, high-tech centres
for command training and incident simulation in the
UK.
The
Centre has five main functions. It is used for
command training, assessment, and personal
development, plus it has a visual and audio
production studio, and a conference
centre.
Personal development is carried out within a safe learning
environment using the full range of command simulation tools
available at the Centre.
These include 'Minerva real time incident simulations' which
are designed to provide incident commanders and their teams
with safe training as close to a real emergency as possible, and
'Hydra decision and rationale logging tools'.
This system allows any decision making subject to be
explored and provides pupils with learning scenarios focusing
on decision making skills. We also run tailored classroom
based presentations and discussion forums.
The Centre has a wide range of briefing, interview, examination,
presentation and group discussion rooms available with full
multi-media facilities. Fully trained staff, including an
occupational psychologist, can assist in planning and running
assessment and development events.
The Centre houses a comprehensive design, development and
production suite.
This enables monitoring and recording of training and events as
well as the production of videos, CD ROMs, DVDs and interactive
multi-media packages.
SWCDC has also been designed to be used as a comprehensive and
flexible conference venue, providing a wide range of facilities
from syndicate and meeting rooms, to a 90-seater conference
centre.
All rooms have computers and IT equipment including a smartboard
projection system for presentations. Catering can be provided to
suit all needs and there is onsite parking for 60 vehicles.
