Director of Human Resources and People Development - Maggie Harte

Maggie Harte Maggie Harte joined AF&RS in January 2006 as head of Human Resources (HR) and was promoted to her current role in 2007.

With 25 years experience of working in fire services across the country, Maggie has a good understanding of HR issues, having covered a variety of areas from equalities and fairness to management training.

Maggie began her career with the fire service at London Fire Brigade where she was responsible for training.  It was during this time she became one of the first non-uniformed personnel to manage initial firefighter training.

In 2003 Maggie left her role in London to work at The Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh as Director of Service Delivery.  While at the fire service college, Maggie was closely involved in policy matters was part of the national group for fire service values, and its successor group which developed a new fire service leadership model.

In June 2009 Maggie received an OBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours for her services to local government.

Maggie said: “AF&RS is a great organisation with a lot of good people doing good work, both on the front line and behind the scenes.”

“Key to my role is making sure that we have the right people in the right roles, receiving the right development."

Maggie was elected to the Board of the Chief Fire Officers' Association in 2007, a two-year post which she held until 2009.
