The Equality & Diversity (E&D) Team have created
a new Single Equality Scheme.
The Single Equality Scheme is the result of the
consolidation of our existing equality policies on race, disability
and gender into a single framework. This has been extended to
include age, sexual orientation, religion and belief and
socio-economic exclusion.
The aim of the Single Equality Scheme (SES) is to set out
in one place what AF&RS will do to meet our legislative
requirements, adopt best practice and deliver real and sustainable
change.
Nationally, the Equalities agenda is moving towards reducing
disadvantage, not only on the seven equalities strands of age,
disability, gender, gender identity, race, religion and belief and
sexual orientation; but also on disadvantage arising directly from
social and economic exclusion.
The Single Equality Scheme was drafted with input from our
staff, senior managers and members of the community. We extend our
thanks to everyone involved in creating this document.

Tim Roberts, Head of the Equality & Diversity Team said:
“This approach reflects best practice from across the public
sector. We believe this inclusive approach is the most
effective method for reducing risks to the communities we
serve.
“We are committed to mainstreaming equality and diversity in
everything AF&RS does. Equality work is fundamental to any
modern public service that is inclusive to the needs of all the
community and has a diverse workforce enriched with many
talents.”
