Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) is committed to equal and fair treatment of our staff and the public, here you can find our Equality and Diversity Policy statement

Equality in the workplace is about:

- working in an environment that is free from discrimination.
- recognising, accepting and valuing people’s differences.
- equality of access with regard to employment and service delivery.
- treating all individuals fairly, without bias, prejudice or stereotyping. This applies to all services provided to local communities and to all recruitment, appointment, promotion and career development decisions.

All AF&RS employees have a responsibility to support the contents of the policy, ensuring that AF&RS does not discriminate against colleagues, job applicants, suppliers or people in the community.

Avon Fire Authority, as an employer, has the responsibility to enforce the policy, ensuring that discrimination or inequality of opportunity does not occur.

Equality is not about:

- lowering standards in any way.
- pretending that everyone is the same.
- giving particular groups or individuals unfair advantage.

Our duty

AF&RS has a duty to ensure that it complies with all legislation on equality and diversity.

We promote equality of opportunity and prevent discrimination. We have adopted a proactive approach to equality and diversity training, which has been designed to focus staff attention on equality related matters.

AF&RS has also implemented strategies designed to improve each person’s awareness of their individual responsibilities, issues of discrimination, diversity, and the impact of behaviour upon the culture of Avon Fire & Rescue Service.

Escape Routes
If there was a fire would you and your family know how to get out? The best way out of your home is the way you regularly come in, but make sure you have other escape routes in case it is blocked. Make sure escape routes are clear of obstacles.
