A group of staff in an Equalities meeting Equalities Consultation Group

The Equalities Consultation Group brings together our senior managers and representatives from community groups, to discuss areas impacting on equality and diversity within Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS).

The group’s aims are:

· To assist AF&RS in ensuring community safety initiatives are accessible to all sections of the community.

· To help with the development, monitoring and review of AF&RS’s Race, Disability and Gender Equality Schemes along with other strategies relating to age, faith/belief and sexual orientation equality.

· To provide scrutiny of policies and practices, and to offer advice on how to advance equality of opportunity.

· To act as a consulting committee on all areas impacting on equality and diversity within AF&RS employment responsibilities and service provision.

There are currently ten organisations from around the service area who are members of the Equalities Consultation Group, these are;

Equality Forum

The Equality Forum is an internal group within AF&RS. It brings together senior managers, members of Avon Fire Authority and internal stakeholders, to discuss equality and diversity issues within the workplace. The forum meets every three months and provides an opportunity to discuss the equalities work of the organisation and how we engage with our community.

We want to ensure we are doing all we can to give access to our services, to educate the community and to provide a culture that celebrates its work force.

The Equality Forum is chaired by the Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive. Along with the Avon Fire Authority members, the forum is also made up of staff representatives from the unions Unison and the Fire Brigades Union.
